How to File for Divorce
Most states have special residency requirements for people who wish to file for divorce in the state's court system. As an examle, California requires that one or both divorcing spouses have lived in California for the previous six months. Other states require residence within the state for as little as six weeks to as long as one year before filing for divorce.

Before filing for divorce, you will need to comply with not only your state's residency requirements, but also local county or district residency requirements. In California to file for divorce in the state you and/or your spouse must have lived in the state for six months AND in one of the state's counties for the previous three months. If the divorce is uncontested, you can request a dominican divorce over the Internet and send the following papers via mail to your lawyer:
1. Copies of the marriage certificate issued and of birth certificates of minor
2. Copy of the passports of the spouses to verify identity and draft the documents.

How to File for Divorce - Uncontested Divorce Cases (Mutual Agreement Divorce)
Quick Divorce Procedure
1. After we receive your information we proceed to prepare documents which are to be sent to client for signature;
2. These documents plus a power of attorney form should be signed, legalized before Dominican Consulate;
3. After legalization is made, these documents must be sent to our office together with original certified copies of marriage and birth certificates;
4. Finally a Court hearing takes place in the Dominican Republic, hearing is usually set for 1 to 2 days afterwards.

The spouse that is to attend hearing in Santo Domingo will only have to spend 1 night in Dominican Republic. Please be sure to bring with you to Dominican Republic passport and other piece of identification (social security card, identification id, driver s license) to complete the divorce.

Citizens of U.S. and Canada and major European countries do not require of a visa but of a valid passport and a tourist card which can be provided either by your travel agent or at your arrival at the Dominican Airport.
